About
0 A.D. is a free, open-source real-time strategy game of ancient warfare, developed by the volunteer group Wildfire Games. Release 28, named "Boiorix" after the king of the Cimbri Germanic tribe, is its first release without the Alpha label. The game is available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, and it is distributed under the GPL v2 for code and CC-BY-SA 3.0 for artwork, with no freemium model, in-game advertising, or other catches.
The new release adds the Germans as a semi-nomadic faction built around Supply Wagons, Wagon Encampments, and the Wagon Trains and Migratory Resettlement technologies, along with aggressive siege units and the Cimbrian raiders, Log Rams, and Seeresses. Other highlights include gendered civilian units that replace the former "female citizen" with male and female civilian models, direct font rendering, JavaScript module support, new game-setup options, lobby improvements, engine and platform updates, new quotes and tips, and various balance changes.
The developers also note that they need volunteers in video editing, social media management, website design, testing, translation, development, and art, and they accept donations to help pay for multiplayer server hosting and development infrastructure.
