About
ActivityWatch is a free, open-source app that automatically tracks how you spend time on your devices. It tracks the active application and window title out of the box, with more detail available through watchers, and it offers categories to break down your usage. Browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox can track the active tab, and editor plugins can track time spent writing code.
A central emphasis of ActivityWatch is privacy: all data is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to the cloud. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. Synchronization between devices is listed as something the project is still working on.
People use ActivityWatch to monitor productivity, track time on projects, manage screen-time habits, measure work-life balance, and keep a log of their digital activity. After installing and running the app, you can open its interface at localhost:5600 in your browser.
