About
Advanced Renamer is a batch file renaming utility for Windows and macOS that lets you rename many files and folders at once. Using its 13 renaming methods, you can change names and timestamps in one pass, copy or move files to new locations based on information within them, and build new names by adding, removing, replacing, changing case, or applying new names based on known file information. You can preview the results before running a batch, and undo a complete batch if the outcome isn't what you wanted.
The app supports metadata-driven renaming for several media types. For images, it can extract details such as date, time, dimensions, and camera model from EXIF and XMP data, and it can use embedded GPS information to insert city, state, and country names. For music, it uses ID3 metadata such as artist, album, and genre to build structured names. For videos, it can add technical details such as codec, resolution, frame rate, and audio bitrate. Additional options include regular expressions and wildcards, JavaScript-generated names, command-line batch runs, saved presets, and support for many file formats and multiple languages.
Typical uses include renaming photos by date taken, cleaning up messy file names by removing spaces and underscores, changing letter case, adding prefixes, suffixes, or incrementing numbers, and making file names safe for web use. The product page describes these as examples of what the software can do.
