About
Aerial is a free, open source macOS app that plays Apple's aerial videos, from cities and deserts to the view from the ISS, as your screensaver and as a live wallpaper. Beyond the Apple TV catalog at native quality, including 4K 240 fps footage slowed for the desktop, it lets you add your own .mov or .mp4 videos, play live camera feeds (RTSP, HLS, or YouTube live URLs), and use a drag-and-drop overlay editor to place a clock, weather, and location captions across seven on-screen zones. Multi-display modes, global hotkeys, playlists, and community video packs are also included, with no telemetry.
Aerial also offers an optional native macOS wallpaper that appears in System Settings alongside the built-in ones and keeps playing on the login screen after your Mac wakes. Its dynamic wallpaper automatically pauses when covered by windows, and it runs with low CPU use, pausing automatically under thermal pressure, Low Power Mode, or when a camera is in use.
Aerial requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later and is distributed as a small 11 MB download that updates itself. Users on macOS 15 (Sequoia) can use Aerial 4.0.16 instead.
