About
Archimedes is a Markdown and LaTeX editor built from the ground up for the Mac, designed to make mathematical writing fun and easy. At its core, it is a full-featured plain text and Markdown editor with a fast syntax highlighter, keyboard shortcuts for common actions such as inserting images and links, and a live preview of the typeset document that is always visible as you work.
For mathematical writing, Math Mode lets you write in a subset of LaTeX, with over 700 commands and autocompletion that also matches closing braces, brackets, and parentheses as you type. Magic Type lets you draw a symbol with a trackpad and inserts its corresponding code, and error checking flags problems as you type. A Math Library shows available LaTeX commands with their previews, Macros let you define custom commands, and a Snippet Editor lets you typeset expressions on their own and export them as vector graphics.
Archimedes also includes tools for longer documents, such as a Navigator for jumping between sections, document statistics, and Find and Replace. Finished work can be shared by email, iMessage, or AirDrop, or exported as a PDF or HTML file. The app is a native Mac application that supports Dark Mode and runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
