About
Astro Editor is a markdown editor for working with local markdown and MDX files in Astro content collections. It reads your content.config.ts and collection schemas so frontmatter appears as proper form fields, including text inputs, date pickers, dropdowns for enums, tag arrays, boolean switches, and image and reference fields, with every schema field shown even when it isn't yet in the file. It also helps with MDX components: a Component Inserter lets you find and insert components like <Aside> from your project without leaving the keyboard, and dragging an image into the editor copies it into the right assets folder with a web-safe name and inserts the markdown for it.
The app is built for writing rather than coding. It offers iA Writer-inspired typography, a focus mode that dims everything except the current sentence, typewriter mode that keeps the cursor vertically centered, and the option to hide the sidebars for a distraction-free view. Other features include filtering and sorting of content collections with draft visibility, copyedit modes that colour-code parts of speech, and a keyboard-navigable command palette.
Astro Editor is available as native builds for macOS (universal, Intel and Apple Silicon), Windows, and Linux, where it is in beta. It can be installed via Homebrew with `brew install --cask astro-editor`, and it is free and open source.
