About
Atuin Desktop is a Mac app for developers who want to make their terminal more capable. It syncs and backs up your shell history across machines, with end-to-end encryption, so your commands follow you wherever you work. Search rich context such as text, directory, exit code, duration, and hostname to find the command you need. History is encrypted client-side before sync, and the sync server is open source, so you can self-host it if you prefer your own infrastructure.
The app also includes Atuin AI, which works inside the terminal you already use. Type ? on an empty prompt to ask for help without leaving your shell. Atuin AI can use command output, exit codes, directories, and shell history as debugging context, and it can suggest commands that you run or insert with a single key. It flags dangerous commands before they run. Atuin AI is free while in testing.
Atuin is open source, works with bash, zsh, fish, and more, and is available for macOS, Linux, and Windows. You install it with a single command and then run atuin setup to get both history and AI ready in about two minutes.
