About
Audacity is the world's most popular free software for recording and editing audio, whether you're producing music, a podcast, or simply experimenting with sound. It is open source, so its code is open for anyone to view or modify, and it is maintained by a worldwide community of audio enthusiasts. The latest release, Audacity 4, is described as intuitive, customizable, and more flexible, with new features including an updated UI, Workspaces, and productivity improvements.
Audacity runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It supports all major audio formats for importing and exporting, so you can convert files such as WAV to MP3, FLAC, or Ogg. It also supports third-party plugins, including VST3 and Nyquist, and offers a Spectrogram view and Vamp analyzers for visualizing and analyzing frequencies.
Audacity is free and always will be. It can be downloaded directly or through MuseHub, the official distributor, which also includes free extras such as Muse Sounds instruments, Elements looping clips, and Muse FX effects plugins.
