About
BackupLoupe is a Mac app that works as a Swiss Army knife for Time Machine. It shows which files have been backed up and which take up the most space, color-codes snapshots by size, and lists items in a snapshot ordered by size so you can find the space hogs and understand why an increment is so large. You can browse backups to see when a file was first backed up, when a modified version was saved, and when it was deleted, and you can preview and restore files or folders by drag and drop or from the context menu, with full or partial restores for directories.
The app also helps when Time Machine itself fails to recognize an old backup or restore an item. Its fast Find feature searches by name, path, size, and file type, with QuickLook previews, and its Finder integration adds a 'Show Time Machine Revisions' option to the context menu. BackupLoupe 3 handles multiple hosts and backup devices through a built-in Disk Manager, which shows where backups are located, the time periods they cover, and lets you mount and unmount backup filesystems.
Based on the data collected from your backups, BackupLoupe reports how much data is backed up per hour, day, or week, and estimates when your backup device will run out of space. It supports macOS High Sierra (10.13) through Golden Gate (27) on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
