About
Bean is a small, easy-to-use word processor designed to make writing convenient, efficient, and comfortable. It is lean, fast, and uncluttered, starts up quickly, shows a live word count, and is easy on the eyes. Bean offers features such as dark mode and alternate colors, split-window editing, full screen and focus mode, date-stamped backups, a find panel with regular expressions, word completion and dictionary support, a formatting inspector, a highlighter, and a floating window. It is available free of charge.
Bean has some limitations: it does not support footnotes or stylesheets, it is only partially compatible with Word's file formats, and it supports in-line graphics but not floating graphics. The current version, 3.7.8, is listed as compatible with macOS versions from High Sierra (10.13) through the newest release, and older Bean versions are available for earlier Macs, including PowerPC systems.
Bean is closed source for version 3.x and is released under The Bean Word Processor Software License. It comes with no warranty, so users assume all the risk of using it. Bugs, feedback, and questions can be sent to the developer by email.
