Better Shot is a native Mac app for capturing, polishing, and sharing screenshots and screen recordings. You can capture screenshots, annotate them with arrows, text, shapes, and numbered markers, and add backgrounds with padding, corners, and shadows. For recordings, it offers a video editor with timeline-based zooms, trimming and splitting, camera layouts, cursor styling, and export to MP4 or MOV without a watermark.
The app is free and open source, licensed under BSD 3-Clause, and requires no account or trial. It is built with Swift and AppKit rather than Electron, and it works fully offline. Captions are generated on-device using Apple's speech framework, and features such as 75 customizable shortcuts, a URL scheme for automation, and auto-saved recordings are included.
Better Shot is positioned as a single alternative to running separate tools for screenshots, walkthrough recordings, and video editing. Optional cloud sharing uses your own R2 bucket for share links.
