About
BetterCmdTab replaces the macOS ⌘Tab switcher with one that lists every open window, so two Safari windows appear as two separate choices. It shows live previews of windows on screen, lets you type a letter to jump to a window or press / to fuzzy-search windows and launch any installed app, and can drill into individual tabs in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, Finder and Terminal. Layouts can be a list, an icon grid, or live previews, and the switcher can show Dock unread badges, a speaker icon on apps playing audio, and windows from all Spaces or only the current one.
Beyond switching, the app includes window tiling to halves and thirds, maximize, center, and moving a window to the next display, along with close, minimize, hide, quit and force-quit actions. Settings live in a plain JSON file at ~/.config/bettercmdtab/config.jsonthat changes take effect without a restart. The app is a native Swift menu-bar app with no telemetry, and its only network requests check GitHub for updates. It requires macOS 13 or later and needs Accessibility permission to take over ⌘Tab, with Screen Recording optional for live previews and Automation access for browser tab listing.
