About
Blender is a free and open-source project licensed under the GNU GPL and owned by its contributors. It includes a built-in Cycles render engine, an unbiased path tracer offering real-time viewport preview, CPU and GPU rendering, PBR shaders, HDR lighting, and VR rendering support.
For 3D work, Blender provides modeling and sculpting tools such as full N-Gon support, edge slide, inset, grid and bridge fill, multi-resolution and dynamic subdivision, and 3D painting with textured brushes. It also offers camera and object tracking for VFX, with auto and manual tracking, live preview of tracked footage, and planar and tripod solvers. Animation and rigging tools include envelope, skeleton, and automatic skinning, a curve editor, dope sheets, and sound synchronization. Blender also supports 2D drawing directly in the 3D viewport, with onion skinning and layers for story art.
The interface can be customized in layout and colors, and it supports high-resolution screens. Users can extend Blender with community add-ons or create their own tools using its Python scripting API.
