About
BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool) is an easy-to-use, multi-OS streaming tool that runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its main purpose is to stream live audio from your computer's microphone or line input to an Icecast, Shoutcast, or WebRTC (WHIP) server, and you can optionally record your broadcast locally. It supports mp3, Ogg/Vorbis, Ogg/Opus, and Ogg/FLAC for streaming and wav for recording, and it can stream to multiple servers and be controlled via command line, network, or MIDI CC messages.
BUTT includes a range of practical features: automatic connection and reconnection, a 10-band EQ, a dynamic range compressor, live listener counts, and the ability to update song names manually, from a text file, or from music apps (on macOS and Linux). It also supports SSL/TLS for Icecast, can automatically connect or record based on a configurable signal or silent period, and offers a interface in seven languages.
BUTT does not stream audio files directly. To send music from a player, the site points to companion tools such as Blackhole on macOS, along with Voicemeeter on Windows and PulseAudio on Linux.
