About
Cables is a standalone desktop version of the cables.gl editor and operators, packaged with Electron for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It is developed mainly by undev with contributions from the cables community. The app is currently in development, so features may break; the project asks users to report bugs and feedback through its issue tracker.
For Mac users, the app is distributed as a signed and notarized .dmg that can be dragged into the Applications folder. Windows users get a portable executable, and Linux users get an AppImage that must be made executable first. Ubuntu 24.04 and newer may need a recent version or the --no-sandbox option to avoid sandbox errors. Command-line options include --fullscreen and --maximize-renderer.
Because the standalone version runs outside the browser sandbox, it grants code more access than the web version. The README warns users to only open operators or patches from sources they trust, and it describes configuration overrides through cables.json.
