About
Caffeine is a small, open source Mac app that places a coffee cup icon in the right side of your menu bar. Click the cup to toggle it on or off: a full cup prevents your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen, or starting screen savers, while an empty cup lets your Mac sleep normally. Right-clicking (or Command-clicking) the icon opens a menu with access to preferences and a timeout option for keeping your Mac awake for a limited time.
Caffeine can be configured to start automatically when you start up your Mac, to activate every time it launches, and to turn itself off after a default duration. The app requires macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later. It was originally developed by Tomas Franzén of Lighthead Software in 2006; in 2018 development was continued by IntelliScape Computer Solutions with Tomas's permission, and the codebase was modernized in 2022 and translated into several languages. Its source code is available on GitHub under the MIT license.
