Calmly Writer is a distraction-free writing app designed to keep you focused on the story you want to tell, rather than the dozens of formatting options found in traditional word processors. It uses a simple, unobtrusive interface and works as a WYSIWYG markdown editor, so headings, tables, and lists display as they will look while you write, without requiring you to read markup syntax. Formatting can also be applied by selecting text and using a toolbar.
The app offers a focus mode, typewriter sounds, smart punctuation, a customizable caret, full screen mode, and several color themes (light, dark, dark blue, dune, and old school). For serious writers, it includes word and character counts with custom targets, reading time, a table of contents, comments, multiple documents organized in tabs, and permanent autosave and backups. Files are stored locally, and documents can be exported to Word, PDF, Markdown, or HTML.
Calmly Writer is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android, with a free 14-day trial on desktop. The desktop version is a single pay-once license covering Windows, Mac, and Linux, with no subscription. The Android version is a separate app sold on Google Play.
