About
Canario is a macOS terminal built on Rio's terminal engine (librio), keeping the same VT handling, rendering core, and color themes while wrapping them in a browser-style workflow. It offers spaces for grouping terminals into color-tinted folders, resizable splits that restore after a restart, live tab and pane previews on hover, a quick terminal summoned with ⌥⌘T, and a ⌘K command bar for jumping to terminals or running commands like split, new tab, or font size changes.
The app also connects terminal output to the rest of macOS. Progress from OSC 9;4 appears on the tab, the Dock icon, and a menu bar pill. When an agent such as Claude Code finishes or needs input, the tab, menu bar, and Dock signal it, and a click returns you to the right terminal. Images from the kitty graphics protocol open in a lightbox where Live Text works on the pixels, and any image can be dragged out as a PNG. Links can be opened from the keyboard with ⇧⌘U, and hovering a link shows its real destination. A canario:// URL scheme lets other apps summon the quick terminal, open spaces, or run commands, with confirmation before any command executes.
Key bindings are fully customizable from one searchable list with conflict handling, and themes such as Dracula, Catppuccin, Nord, Solarized, Tokyo Night, and Lucario can be previewed live. Canario is in beta, requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon, and is free to download.
