About
Choragus is a native macOS controller for Sonos speakers, built entirely in Swift and SwiftUI and shipped as a universal binary that runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It was created as an independent project by a Sonos fan after Sonos's Intel-only desktop app was set to stop working on modern Macs when Apple discontinues Rosetta 2. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sonos, and all control happens locally over open UPnP protocols, with nothing sent to the cloud.
The app supports speaker discovery and control across multiple zones, and supports streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, TuneIn, Calm Radio, and Sonos Radio, as well as local music libraries and media servers like Plex, Synology, and MinimServer. Setup for some services requires adding them in the official Sonos app first, and Spotify and Apple Music also require saving a song as a Sonos Favorite before signing in through Choragus settings. The app is distributed as a signed and notarized DMG and requires local network permission for discovery.
Version 5.0 adds AI-assisted playlist building, optional AI integration at several levels, and a local MCP server that lets compatible assistants control rooms, playback, volume, grouping, queues, playlists, and alarms with per-token access levels and an activity log. Other additions include an in-app alarm manager, automatic repair of expired or unreachable queue items, multi-select queue editing, and playlist manager improvements.
