About
ChronyControl is a Mac app for installing and configuring chronyd, the chrony time-synchronization daemon, on macOS. It provides a settings interface, a tracking graph for monitoring synchronization, and a File menu for viewing the chronyd log at /var/log/chronyd.log. Its Action menu includes chronyc commands such as reload sources and Step Time, and the app can be set to start at login.
The app bundles chrony itself (the current release is 1.7.0, which updates chrony to chrony-4.9 and requires macOS Sonoma 14.6 or later). Earlier versions added features such as syslog output to the chronyd log, a chronywake daemon that re-syncs the system clock after the Mac wakes from sleep, an option to run chronyd as an NTP server without updating the local clock, and integration with gpsd for GPS-based timing.
The website notes that some updates may require following on-screen instructions carefully, and points to a troubleshooting guide if problems persist. Previous versions can be downloaded if needed.
