About
Clearance is a native macOS app for reading and editing Markdown files, with first-class support for YAML-frontmatter documents. You can open .md and .txt files, keep a recent-files sidebar grouped by recency, and switch between a rendered View mode and a full-pane Edit mode with syntax highlighting. A right-side outline helps you navigate headings, you can open files in new windows, and Markdown links to local files or web URLs can be followed. Edits are auto-saved, and common keyboard shortcuts cover opening, finding, printing, undo/redo, and mode switching.
Clearance runs fully locally for normal editing and rendering, with no CDN dependencies. Network activity is optional and only occurs when you explicitly trigger it, such as opening web links or checking for updates. In-app updates are handled with Sparkle, accessible via Clearance → Check for Updates… in the menu bar.
The app is distributed as a downloadable .dmg or .zip from GitHub Releases. Copyright 2026 Prime Radiant.
