About
Cline for Desktop brings the Cline coding agent to macOS as a native desktop application, so you can use it without installing an editor. It is part of Cline's open source agent runtime, which also powers the Cline extensions for editors like VS Code, Windsurf, JetBrains, and Cursor, as well as the terminal CLI and the SDK for embedding the agent in your own products.
The agent works across your project with coordinated multi-file edits, linter-aware fixes, diffs, checkpoints, and one-click undo. You can switch between Plan mode to agree on a strategy and Act mode to execute it, approving each step or enabling auto-approve. It supports models from Claude, GPT, Gemini, local Ollama or LM Studio, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, using your own key or weights. Repositories can include .clinerules to teach the agent your coding standards and conventions, and MCP servers can connect it to databases, APIs, and infrastructure.
The website also describes running the agent from Slack, Discord, Telegram, or Linear, running it headlessly in CI pipelines such as GitHub Actions or GitLab, and using coordinator agents with specialist sub-agents on schedules.
