Cog

About

Cog is a free and open source audio player for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. On the Mac it offers gapless playback, scrobbling with Last.fm and ListenBrainz, shuffle and repeat options, a graphic equalizer, ReplayGain, synced lyrics, a waveform seek bar, and spatial audio on headphones and speakers. Its format support is broad, covering common formats like MP3, FLAC, and AAC along with many tracker, game music, DSD, and archive formats, and it includes MIDI playback with SoundFonts.

The iPhone and iPad version uses the same audio engine and format plugins as the Mac app. It plays files and folders from the Files app in place, offers a Now Playing screen themed from album art, and includes a playlist, lock screen controls, and search. A dedicated iPad layout adds menus and keyboard shortcuts. The iPhone and iPad app requires iOS or iPadOS 18 and is available on the App Store.

The Mac app requires macOS 12.0 or later and is available as a direct download, with automatic updates in that edition. Cog also offers opt-in remote control for MCP clients on macOS 13 or later, and the project publishes its source code on GitHub.
