ColaMD is a free, open source Markdown editor built around a simple idea: everyone should have a beautiful, capable Markdown editor on their computer. It offers a quiet writing space with your text and a file list, no toolbar, and nothing to configure, with tabs available when you want them. Markdown is plain text that any app can open, and ColaMD renders it as you type with true WYSIWYG editing, so there is no split-pane preview to learn.
ColaMD keeps the document in sync with the file on disk. When the file changes, whether by an AI agent, a script or another editor, the editor updates right away without reopening or refreshing. It also offers twelve themes, Mermaid diagram rendering, export to Word, PDF, HTML or image, an outline with find and replace, and a same-directory file browser. Each tab keeps its own content, undo history and scroll position.
ColaMD is available for macOS, Windows and Linux, with English and Chinese interfaces, and is released under the MIT License. Your files stay on your computer.
