About
CommandPost is an open-source macOS application built for post-production professionals and editors. It adds hundreds of features to Apple's Final Cut Pro and offers extensive control surface support, letting users control their Mac in the way they want. The app is fully native on Apple Silicon and includes a Search Console, a system-wide tool similar to Spotlight that can trigger CommandPost actions, assign actions to control surface buttons and knobs, run Keyboard Maestro macros, macOS Shortcuts, and AppleScripts, and place effects and effect templates onto selected clips.
CommandPost works with a wide range of hardware, including Tangent, Monogram, Loupedeck, and Razer keypads, and can control almost any Mac application, not just Final Cut Pro. Users can perform complex tasks with a single keystroke, such as exporting a Final Cut Pro Timeline Index and Browser Contents to a CSV file. Editors have cited its Titles to Keywords toolbox as a major time saver on large projects.
The app has been downloaded over 277,000 times and is used by editors at companies including Netflix, Pixar, the BBC, Apple, Avid, and Adobe. Note that after nine years of free updates, the developer now requires at least one paid LateNite application to be installed in order to use CommandPost, with the cheapest option costing USD$10.
