About
CrashPlan is a data resilience platform that provides automatic cloud backup for endpoints, servers, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace. Backups run automatically and save every version of a file along with its metadata. Data is protected with 256-bit AES encryption in transit and at rest, with configurable settings, and the company states that key data-center compliances and BAA availability are offered to support regulatory needs.
The platform lets you choose where backups are stored, including CrashPlan's cloud, your own Azure instance, a local destination, or a third-party cloud. Users can restore a single file version or all files in a few clicks, prioritizing recently used files first, and restore to a new device, a server, or another location. Archiving is built into backup policies so that data can be retained as long as needed while avoiding Microsoft 365 data overage charges, with file stubs keeping archived data accessible to end users.
