About
Crisp is a free, open-source Mac app that gives external monitors the controls macOS normally reserves for Apple displays. From one menu bar panel you can enable sharp HiDPI scaling on any display, fine-tune how large everything looks, and control hardware brightness over DDC with a software fallback. Brightness keys can dim the display under your cursor, all displays, or a chosen subset, and Extra Brightness Push unlocks the HDR brightness reserve on XDR MacBooks and HDR monitors. Monitor speaker volume, input switching, and native toggles like Dark Mode, Night Shift, and True Tone are also available from the panel.
Crisp also covers setup management. Presets save resolution, brightness, arrangement, image adjustment, HDR, and which displays are active, and can be applied with one click, on a schedule through Shortcuts, or via global keyboard shortcuts. Virtual HiDPI displays, drag-to-arrange layout, ICC profile switching, and a command line tool called crispctl round out the feature set. Crisp requires macOS 14 or later, with some features limited to Apple Silicon Macs. It is free with no paid tier, and is released under the MIT license.
