About
CrystalViewer 11 is a Mac application for exploring crystal and molecular structures. It uses a photo-album style interface with high-resolution graphics and a curated library: a Materials Library of about 1,400 annotated structures (grouped into Hybrid Materials, Inorganics and Organics) and a Minerals Library of about 600 minerals. Users can rotate, scale and measure structures in real time, identify atoms, polyhedra and bond distances by hovering, and measure interatomic distances and angles. Search includes a Smart mode that recognizes chemical formulae, and the sidebar can index structures by name, mineral or formula. Structures can be viewed in red-blue stereo 3D, in colour or greyscale, and multi-structure files can be animated to show structural building blocks and phase transitions. The application is designed for classroom teaching, covering topics such as atomic radii, lattice types, lattice defects and polyhedral representations.
