About
Max is an open-ended environment for creating your own interactive software. Its objects generate sound, represent hardware, or provide on-screen UI controls such as dials and sliders, and patchcords connect them so each object can share its output with the next. The patcher starts as a blank canvas and expands as your work grows, letting you build custom synthesizers, manipulate samples including timestretching and pitch shifting, and patch multichannel audio.
Beyond sound, Max includes Jitter for realtime video and graphics, Gen for building custom audio, matrix, and texture processes that can also output source code, and flexible hardware access for prototyping with development boards and sensors. Its built-in Package Manager offers add-ons covering areas such as computer vision and hardware controller support, and you can extend Max yourself using C++, NodeJS, Java, or JavaScript.
