About
Default Folder X enhances the Open and Save dialogs in all of your applications. Hierarchical menus let you navigate folders quickly, instant search lets you type a few characters of a file or folder name to open it, and clicking a Finder window lets you save straight into it. The Save As edit field is also larger, so long filenames are easy to read and edit.
The app also works in the Finder, with a customizable menu for recent and favorite items, a drawer below Finder windows for items you want to reach later, and a menu bar icon you can drag files onto to move them to a folder. A Quick Search window opens with Command+Shift+Space, and keyboard shortcuts for favorite folders are fully configurable. It remembers recently used files and folders, re-selects the last file you opened, and can set a default folder for an application.
Default Folder X is available as a free 30-day trial, with a single-user license priced at $39.95 and discounts for multiple licenses and educational buyers. It runs on macOS 10.13 through 27 on both Intel and Apple Silicon.
