About
dmenu-mac is a keyboard-only application launcher for macOS, inspired by dmenu. You press a hotkey (⌘ Space by default, configurable), type a few letters, and press Enter. Matching is fuzzy and case-insensitive, and frequently or recently opened items rank higher. It finds apps in /Applications, /System/Applications, and ~/Applications, bundled utilities, and System Settings panes. Optionally, it can also list command-line programs from your $PATH and open them in a terminal you choose.
The launcher also supports aliases for short keywords, running typed text as a shell command when nothing matches, and search shortcuts that open web searches or LLM prompts in your browser or terminal. Keyboard actions include revealing an item in Finder, copying its path, and opening a new instance of an app. The launcher does not steal focus from the app you are using.
The app requires macOS 13.5 or later and can be installed with Homebrew, Nix, or by downloading the signed and notarized release from the releases page. It is licensed under GPL-3.0.
