About
DMG Canvas is a Mac app for creating disk images (DMGs) with a custom look. Users drag and drop files into a window, design the disk image's appearance with a visual editor that shows exactly how it will look in Finder, and click Build to produce a finished disk image. Backgrounds can be created inside the app by adding images and stylized text, and Retina-ready designs are handled automatically. The app also supports license agreements shown when mounting a disk image, including multiple languages and styles, with previews for macOS Light and Dark modes.
The app offers compatibility and security options: disk images can be made to work back to OS X 10.4, or use newer compression and file formats such as LZMA and APFS. Code signing is available with a single click, and the app can notarize disk images and their contents, which requires Xcode to be installed. A command-line tool, dmgcanvas, lets builds be automated as part of a normal build workflow, and the app can generate a script that integrates it into an Xcode project's Archive post-action so a disk image is created each time an application is archived.
