About
Don't Touch is a Mac menu bar app for stepping away from your laptop in a café. Click Arm Now, and the screen fades into a calm, drifting aurora screensaver while the menu bar, Dock and cursor disappear. If anyone touches the keyboard, trackpad or mouse, closes or tilts the lid, unplugs the charger, or moves the laptop, the screen turns red, a siren sounds, and the volume is forced to 100%, even if someone tries to lower it. A voice says things like "Why you push me?" and "Somebody call the barista!" The alarm keeps going until you return and type your four-digit PIN. The app is not a lock or anti-theft software. It's a deterrent that makes grabbing your MacBook a very embarrassing thing to do.
The optional camera is built for cafés. It reacts only when the whole picture shifts together, such as when the laptop itself is lifted or tilted, and ignores people walking past or lights dimming. Nothing is recorded or stored, and a green light shows when it's on. While armed, the app also blocks ⌘Q, ⌘-Tab and closing the window, and keeps the Mac awake. Closing the lid on battery still puts the Mac to sleep, and it wakes up sounding the alarm.
Don't Touch runs on any Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or newer, on Apple silicon and Intel. It needs no account, setup or cloud, and it never leaves your Mac or talks to the internet. It is a one-time $5 purchase with no subscription, and the purchase link works on all your Macs. You get the app right after paying.
