About
Downie is a video downloader for macOS that saves videos from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and over a thousand other sites. It can fetch YouTube videos in full 4K resolution, and it can automatically convert downloads to MP4 for iPhone or iPad or extract just the audio track. For sites it doesn't support out of the box, a built-in browser lets you navigate to the video and Downie will detect and grab it. A browser extension for Safari, Chrome, and Firefox sends links straight to the app.
Downie is a native Mac app that receives weekly updates adding new sites, fixing broken ones, and shipping new features. Download history syncs across your Macs over iCloud to help prevent duplicate downloads. It requires macOS 13 or later, with macOS 15 or later recommended.
Downie is sold as a permanent license for $19.99 (USD, excluding VAT/sales tax), available directly from the developer, or through a Setapp subscription. Bundles with Permute, a media converter, are also offered, along with a student discount on request. Permute 4 requires macOS 26 and Apple Silicon. Downie is not available on the Mac App Store.
