About
DrawPen is a simple screen annotation tool available on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It is open source and licensed under the MIT license, and it can be downloaded for free from the project's releases page or installed via Homebrew on macOS or Scoop on Windows.
DrawPen provides a set of annotation tools that can be activated with keyboard shortcuts, including a brush, a fade pen, shapes (arrow, square, and others), text, a highlighter, a laser pointer, and an eraser. Users can also switch colors and line thickness, show or hide a toolbar and a whiteboard, clear the screen, and open the settings page. A global shortcut toggles draw/pointer mode.
The project notes a known issue on some Linux setups running Wayland, where DrawPen may crash with a segmentation fault. The suggested workaround is to run it with the X11 backend or use the separate drawpen-x11 package available in releases.
