About
Elephas is a private AI app for Mac that answers questions from your own contracts, client files, and reports, and shows the source for every answer. Your documents stay stored on your computer, and your search index and chats are kept in an encrypted database. You can use Elephas on your own or share a Brain with your team so everyone can ask questions of the same documents.
To use it, you add your files, which can include PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, and scanned pages, or drop in a whole folder. Elephas indexes them on your computer, and you ask in plain language. Each answer cites the file and page, slide, or sheet it came from so you can check the passage. Elephas searches documents in eight languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Tamil, Japanese, and Chinese.
You choose where answers are generated. You can use the Elephas gateway, your own API key with a provider such as OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini, or an on-computer model with nothing sent anywhere. Before a question leaves your computer, Elephas hides personal details such as names, email addresses, and phone numbers, then restores them in the answer. Elephas runs on macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon, and a Windows version is coming soon. It is free for 7 days with no card needed.
