About
Endless Sky is a 2D space trading and combat game similar to the classic Escape Velocity series. Players explore other star systems and earn money by trading, carrying passengers, or completing missions, then spend their earnings on better ships or on upgrading the weapons and engines of their current one. Players can blow up pirates, take sides in a civil war, or seek out alien civilizations beyond human space. The game is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, and it is free and open source.
The game begins with the player saving up enough money to buy a first starship on a backwater planet, choosing between a shuttle, a cargo barge, or a light interceptor. Each choice shapes how the player earns early income, whether by transporting passengers, finding trade deals, mining asteroids, or escorting freighter convoys. Ship upgrades involve tradeoffs among hundreds of outfits, with energy requirements and heat dissipation to consider, and about 70 ship models are available in human territory.
As the player's cargo capacity and combat reputation grow, more special jobs become available. Only one major story line has been written so far, which lets the player take part in a rebellion that reshapes human space, and the community continues to develop additional story lines, alien species, ships, and outfits.
