ES-DE (EmulationStation Desktop Edition) is a gaming frontend for browsing and launching games from a multi-platform collection. It comes preconfigured for use with a large selection of emulators, game engines, game managers and gaming services, and it can also run locally installed games and applications. Its interface supports full controller navigation, and it supports over 150 game systems with minimal setup required.
The app is fully customizable and themeable, with a built-in scraper for downloading game info, images, videos and manuals, along with many configuration options. Themes can be installed through the built-in theme downloader, and the website showcases several examples of how different themes change the app's appearance.
ES-DE is available for macOS (Intel, macOS 11 "Big Sur" and later), as well as Linux, Windows and Android. The Windows, macOS and Linux releases are open source and free to use. Installation is supported by a user guide, a FAQ and a Discord server.
