About
FastRawViewer is a Mac and Windows app for photographers who want to sort and cull RAW files quickly. Instead of displaying the embedded JPEG preview, it opens RAW files and renders them on the fly, so you can judge exposure, highlights, and shadows from the RAW data itself, much as a RAW converter would see it. The app offers RAW-based tools such as a RAW histogram, over- and underexposure indicators, Shadow Boost, Highlight Inspection, Focus Peaking, and per-channel view, along with familiar adjustments like Exposure Compensation, White Balance, and Contrast Curves.
FastRawViewer also provides rating, labeling, sorting, and filtering for any number of RAW, JPEG, TIFF, and PNG images, and its settings and keyboard/mouse shortcuts can be customized. Adjustments are recorded as XMP files, giving Adobe Lightroom and ACR a starting point for further editing. The site describes browsing speeds of roughly 6-15 frames per second for modern 16-50 Mpix camera files, and it works directly with any file system or media without creating intermediate catalogues.
