About
The FIDO2.1 Security Key Management Tool is a macOS application for managing FIDO2.1 security keys on Apple Silicon Macs (macOS Ventura 13.0 or later). It offers a simple interface for viewing device information, managing passkeys, changing PINs, and performing factory resets. It is compiled from the same open-source codebase as the Windows and Linux versions, though macOS behaves slightly differently because it assigns a new hardware IORegistry ID each time a key is replugged. The tool is compatible with most FIDO2.1-compliant keys from other manufacturers, but NFC support depends on the NFC reader used, and the smartcard interface is not fully supported.
The app lets you select a connected key, enter its PIN, and view manufacturer, model, protocol version, storage capacity, and other technical details. You can also view stored passkeys organized by domain and delete unwanted credentials. For keys with a built-in biometric sensor, a fingerprints panel lets you list, rename, delete, and enroll fingerprints, with each operation requiring PIN confirmation. PIN changes are handled through guided terminal prompts, and a factory reset option permanently erases all credentials and settings. A built-in fido2-manage CLI provides an alternative for these tasks, such as setting a PIN on a new key.
