Filen

About

Filen is an encrypted cloud storage service built around zero-knowledge, end-to-end encryption, meaning that neither Filen nor any other party can access your files. Its encryption is client-side and uses AES 256-bit, and the company states that its apps are open source and that its servers and headquarters are located in Germany under German data protection law.

For day-to-day use, the Mac app lets you view files in list or grid layouts and turn your cloud storage into a network drive, with Smart Sync so you can work on files without waiting for a full sync. Five sync modes support backing up and syncing data across multiple devices. The service also includes encrypted notes with rich text, code, markdown, and checklist options, and end-to-end encrypted chats for sharing files and conversations.

Filen positions itself for individuals, professionals, businesses, and developers who prioritize security. It advertises pricing with no hidden fees, no restrictions on upload or download speed, GDPR compliance, and 24/7 customer support.
