About
Finbar reimagines the Mac's built-in menu bar search with fuzzy filtering, recents, and a rule-based filtering system, without sacrificing speed. It turns the menu bar into a native, ubiquitous command palette that you can summon from anywhere with a global hot key. It is built with AppKit, Apple's UI framework, so it is fast, efficient, and light on system resources. Finbar is a one-time purchase for up to 2 Macs and requires macOS 14.6 or later.
Finbar remembers every menu item you select, building a list of your favorites that stays relevant across launches, even when menu item titles change. Its search requires less typing: List mode flattens the menu bar into one list sorted by match score, while Outline mode filters the menu bar and keeps its order and hierarchy. You can select a container menu item to narrow the search to that scope. For browsing, Outline mode presents the menu bar as a browsable outline, and you can reach any item with a few keystrokes. You can also activate the top nine items with ⌘1 through ⌘9, and highlight items in the live menu bar without clicking them.
Finbar also offers Rules for hiding irrelevant menu items, built with the Mac's standard rule editing interface, and Themes, including classic options and custom ones. Scripts lets you add your own menu items by placing shell scripts or AppleScript files in a designated folder. Key Equivalents show each item's assigned hot key, and Mark Characters show the state of a menu item. If you can't find an item, Fallback Search lets you search the system help menu with one click.
