About
FirstTake is a video studio for Mac with a built-in agent. You describe a film, and the agent plans the scenes, picks the models, shoots them in order, checks its own work, adds dialogue, music and titles, and exports a finished MP4. Every shot starts where the last one ended, so rooms, light and characters carry through the cut. Before any paid step runs, the app shows the model and estimated cost, and nothing is spent until you allow it. Generation runs through your own fal.ai, OpenRouter or Higgsfield account, billed at their prices with no markup from FirstTake.
FirstTake also works as a conventional editor. Any project the agent builds is an ordinary project you can open and change by hand. The editor includes colour grading, captions, trims, music scoring with fades and ducking, a fixed voice per character, and one-click export. Projects are ordinary files on your Mac, and your provider keys are encrypted in your Keychain.
If you already use Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf or Codex, FirstTake runs an MCP server on your Mac that connects them in one click from Settings. Those agents can then create a whole film, with storyboard and approval panels, and the project opens in FirstTake. The launch edition is a one-time purchase of $14.99 with no subscription, covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee, for macOS 12 or later. Generation is not included and is billed by your provider; without a provider key, the app can open and edit projects but cannot generate.
