About
FlashSpace is a virtual workspace manager for macOS, designed to enhance and replace the native macOS Spaces. It lets you define virtual workspaces, assign apps to them, and assign each workspace to a specific display. When you switch to a workspace, its assigned apps are presented and other apps on that display are hidden, with workspaces switchable independently on each display. Switching is done with hotkeys, and the app is built to avoid waiting on macOS animations.
The app offers features including Space Control for previewing and switching between all workspaces, a Workspace Switcher activated with Option + Tab, a Focus Manager for moving focus between windows with hotkeys, and floating apps that stay visible across all workspaces. It also supports multiple display assignment modes: static, where each workspace is tied to one display, and dynamic, where workspaces follow the displays where their apps are located. Additional features include profiles, configurable menu bar icon and text, swipe gesture actions, configuration through the GUI or JSON, YAML, and TOML files, a command line interface, Picture-in-Picture support, and SketchyBar integration.
FlashSpace requires macOS 14.0 or later and the "Displays have separate Spaces" setting enabled in Desktop & Dock. It can be installed via Homebrew, downloaded as a binary from the Releases page, or built from source. The project is released under the GPL-3.0 license.
