About
flow5 is a potential flow solver with built-in pre- and post-processing functionalities. It is designed to make preliminary designs of wings, planes, hydrofoils and sails reliable, fast and user-friendly. It is version 7 of the legacy project xflr5.
The project provides online documentation (still under construction), downloadable project files used in the documentation and video tutorials, and video tutorials that share recommended practices for using flow5. Questions can be posted to the GitHub discussion section, while issues, bug reports and feature requests go to the GitHub project page. The latest release is flow5 v7.58, dated October 25, 2026.
flow5 is released under the GNU General Public License v3. It uses XFoil, Gmsh, OpenCascade, Intel MKL and Qt, and flow5 is a registered trademark in France of the company Vic-Aéro.
