About
Flying Carpet transfers files between Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows. It works over ad hoc WiFi, with one device acting as a hotspot for the other, or over a network both devices already share. No internet or cell connection is required. Two devices with WiFi or ethernet chips (and optionally Bluetooth) are enough, and in hotspot mode they must be within close range.
In Shared Network mode, both devices join the same WiFi or wired network, the receiving device displays a one-time password with a QR code, and the sending device uses it to find the other device and start the transfer. In hotspot mode, one device creates a WiFi hotspot; if both devices support Bluetooth, the hotspot credentials are exchanged automatically after a pairing code is confirmed, otherwise the password is entered manually. Apple devices cannot create hotspots programmatically, so Apple-to-Apple transfers require a shared network.
Flying Carpet is available on Android and iOS app stores, and as desktop downloads for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Version 10 is a breaking change: all devices must be updated to version 10 to transfer with each other.
