About
Forel is a macOS app that watches folders you choose and automatically moves, copies, renames, tags, labels, trashes, or uncompresses files that match your rules. Rules can match on name, extension, kind, size, tags, color label, or content, and you can preview changes with Dry Run before running them. It runs natively in the menu bar, and its translucent popover shows what is active at a glance. Forel is positioned as a Hazel alternative for macOS 14 and later.
All processing happens locally: there are no accounts, no telemetry, and no remote processing, and rules and history are stored in a local SQLite database. The app is free to use indefinitely, with limits of 2 watched folders and 300 processed files per month. Pro removes those limits and adds on-device OCR for images and scanned PDFs, plus imports into Photos, Music, and TV. Forel is open source and built with Tauri, Rust, React, and SQLite.
