About
Frames is a film photography app that connects the analog shooting process with digital scans. On iOS, it works as a notebook for logging film rolls, camera settings, and notes for each shot, with all your rolls, cameras, and lenses organized in one place. Records can be exported in formats such as XMP, CSV, and TXT to travel with your scans.
The Frames app for macOS imports your logs and matches them to your scanned images through drag and drop. It then writes the shooting data directly into each file as EXIF metadata, including film stock, exposure settings, equipment, geolocation, and notes, without modifying the source files. The website states that this metadata can be read by applications such as Apple Photos, Adobe Lightroom, Google Photos, and Capture One.
The app stores data locally by default and does not require an account. iCloud synchronization is optional, and the site states the developer does not share or sell user data. Layout, aperture and shutter speed increments, control shortcuts, and equipment lists can be customized to match how a photographer works.
