GB Studio is a quick and easy-to-use drag-and-drop retro game creator for your favourite handheld video game system. It requires no programming knowledge thanks to its visual scripting, and includes a built-in debugger for when your game grows more complex. It is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The app supports multiple game types, including top-down games, platform games, and shooters, and you can mix types within a single game or write your own by extending the engine. It also includes an inbuilt music editor with both piano roll and tracker modes, and supports external apps such as hUGETracker. Games can be built as real ROM files for playback on any Game Boy emulator, or exported for the web with mobile controls and uploaded to Itch.io.
GB Studio has a active community with over 1000 games made with the app, ranging from weekend hackathon projects and children's first coding efforts to professional games with physical releases. The community can be found on Discord, Reddit, and Itch.io, and development can be supported through Patreon.
