About
GeoMapApp is a map-based application for browsing, visualizing, and analyzing a curated collection of global and regional geoscience data sets spanning geophysics, geology, geochemistry, physical oceanography, climatology, and more. It offers data layering, display customization, and analytical tools for working with multidisciplinary data, with Mercator, North polar, and South polar projections available, and images can be saved for papers and presentations. Users can also import their own grids, tabular data, images, and shapefiles, customizing color palettes, shaded relief, and contours for grids, and editing and styling table values; several custom portals provide visualization for specialized data types such as seismic reflection profiles and geodetic velocity vectors. Developed and maintained by the Marine Geoscience Data System at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, GeoMapApp is widely used by educators and researchers for research, proposal and presentation preparation, publication figures, and teaching at the high-school, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
